Rising from the ashes, a phoenix symbolizes strength, resilience, and new beginnings. That powerful imagery inspired Sandra Rayos and two fellow designers to create a garment honoring breast cancer survivor and their journeys through difficult times.

Over the course of two weeks, the trio brought their vision to life, working together to transform soda cans, foam, ribbon, dust bags, a corset, muslin, lace, and beads into a meaningful design.

Sharks, squids, and axolotls are just a few of the marine creatures that sparked Enrique Melendez’s imagination when creating Guardian of the Ocean, his award-winning design.

With a passion for ocean life and protecting marine habitats, Enrique used recycled and repurposed materials to bring his vision to life. He spent countless hours perfecting the details of his creation, which he proudly modeled on the runway.

His hard work and creativity earned him the title of Youth Winner, but Enrique hopes his design makes an impact beyond the competition. He wants to encourage others to protect marine life while showing young artists that creativity has no age limit.

A little imagination and a lot of creativity can transform everyday materials into something extraordinary. Inspiration can come from the most unexpected places, even a little fairy known for turning scraps into something magical. That same creativity helped Mya Costa become one of this year's Recycle Fashion Show winners with a garment made from repurposed materials.

Beyond the creativity of her design, Mya hopes her work encourages others to rethink what they consider waste. Her garment serves as a reminder that materials often thrown away can be transformed into something meaningful.

By highlighting the amount of waste entering our oceans, Mya hopes to inspire others to recycle more, reduce unnecessary waste and recognize the possibilities in materials that might otherwise be overlooked.

Maria Tercero

A simple childhood memory of sharing a Coca-Cola with her brother under a tree during school recess became the inspiration behind Maria Tercero's one-of-a-kind creation.

Spending approximately 125 hours bringing her vision to life, Maria transformed 806 Coca-Cola bottle caps, along with aluminum can tabs and can bottoms, into an intricate dress and matching accessories. She even repurposed plastic shopping bags into yarn, knitting the pieces together by hand. Her creativity extended to the accessories, including earrings, a necklace, a bracelet, and shoe decorations.

The design also reflects cherished memories of making Mother's Day gifts for her mom using whatever materials she could find. Through her work, Maria hopes to inspire others to see the potential in everyday objects, proving that with imagination, patience, and passion, something ordinary can become extraordinary.

Creativity, sustainability and fashion took center stage on October 16, 2026, as Keep Odessa Beautiful, alongside La Catrina & Co., hosted its 10th annual recycle fashion show at the Odessa Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.

The annual event brought together talented designers, community members and supporters for an evening celebrating the power of recycle and repurposing everyday materials. From unique runway creations to imaginative designs, participants showcased how discarded items can be transformed into wearable works of art.

More than just a fashion show, the event encourages environmental awareness, inspires creative reuse and promotes Keep Odessa Beautiful’s mission of building a cleaner, more sustainable community.

This year’s milestone celebration was an incredible success, welcoming 298 attendees and raising $66,749!
